1958 Korina Explorer

The Explorer (along with the Flying V) was part of the innovative Modernistic Guitar Series designed to shake up the stodgy image Gibson felt it had in the '50s. The korina-bodied Explorer was a derivative of a prototype called the Futura (unveiled in 1957), and featured a radically angular body and scimitar shaped headstock. Like the Flying V, the Explorer's initial run (1958 & 1959) was brief but memorable.
